Efficient drainage is never a problem until it stops working. All drainage systems need cleaning at some point in time. Scale, silt, fat and grease inevitably accumulate, reducing capacity and flow, and can even cause a total blockage.
High pressure water jetting is an effective cleaning technique for use in drains, sewers and pipework systems. It can be used to remove relatively soft silt or hard substances such as scale or cement.
Blockages in drains, sewers and stack pipes can be cleaned using this highly effective technique. Powerful jets of water developing pressures of up to 4000psi strip deposits from pipe walls, flush out debris and restore free-flowing conditions.
High pressure water jetting can also be used to ensure that process pipework is clean and clear of obstructions. Naturally, when scale and residue build up, manufacturing efficiency declines. Boiler scale, polymer resins, carbon deposits, milk scale and even concrete can be prised away with relative ease.
Most businesses don’t give their drains a second thought – they’re very much out of sight and out of mind. But when there’s a problem like a blockage or poor drainage it can cause flooding and costly disruption.
If left un-repaired a blockage, which would cost just Tens of pounds to repair, could lead to flooding costing a few thousand pounds worth of damage and disruption. In the worst case scenario this could lead to the drain collapsing, costing tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds to repair.
Clearflow Drains offer a range of services from CCTV drain surveys to jetting and rodding to remove blockages.

A blocked drain in or around the home is something that can not only cause damage to your home; it can be a really smelly problem as well. If you can keep your drains functioning properly and with little problems, you’ll find that blockages and other issues rarely arise.
Prevention is usually far more effective than cure, and with these helpful tips and tricks you’ll find it far easier to keep your drains running smoothly.
To maintain your indoor drains, one of the easiest ways to keep them clear and free from blockages is to pour boiling water down them on a regular basis. A kettle full of boiling water once a week can be a substantial help in removing build ups of fats, oil and grease and preventing blocked drains.
If you do this regularly enough you’ll find that it keeps your drains clear and prevents the need for any drastic action because something has gone wrong further down the line.
Baking soda and vinegar
While it’s not a good idea to use strong chemical cleaners on your drains, as you can never be sure what they’ll react with and if they will damage your drains, you can use a weaker cleaner.
The best solution is a combination of baking soda and vinegar poured down the drain, followed by hot water. You will be able to hear a small chemical reaction occurring once you have done this. This reaction helps to remove stubborn dirt and grime and should be done two to three times a year as a form of seasonal maintenance.
Watch what you drop down the drains
One of the best ways to maintain your drains is by being extremely careful with what you put down them. While most drains are designed to carry waste and small items such as toilet roll, waste pipes don’t deal very well with grease and fat from food, cleansing wipes, dental floss, nappies or sanitary products.
You should be very wary about what you leave to go down your drains and should try and dispose of waste into the rubbish bin where possible. With fats and grease you can pour them into a bottle or food storage container and dispose of them into the garbage.
Clear debris from outside
If you’re trying to keep your drains outside well maintained, it’s a good idea to make sure they are clear of debris at the point at which they enter the ground. This involves checking your gullies for leaves and twigs in order to ensure that they don’t restrict water flow at any point.

We were called out to a supermarket on Far Gosford in coventry today. They’d had blocked foul water drains for a week. This meant that they could not open the shop due to having a main inspection chamber inside the shop.
Over the past week, they’ve called 5 different drainage companies, all charging by the hour to clear the blockage. None of the companies could Get it clear, but still charged the customer over £2500.
When the customer called us, we gave them a fixed price of £125. And agreed that if we couldn’t clear the blockage, we would not charge anything.
We attended within the hour, and we cleared the drains using the h.p.w jetting unit.
The shop was back open and trading in no time at all.

Winter drains advice
The frost, snow and cold weather can take a huge toll on your drains and plumbing systems during the winter, often causing a large amount of damage if things go wrong.
One of the key things to remember during the winter is that if the flow of water in your drains is inhibited at any point, it’s far more likely to block. To reduce this risk, it’s a good idea to ensure the drains are kept as free from debris as possible.
This means regularly clearing leaves, twigs and other debris from the gutters and gullies and using a grate of some sort to cover any open gullies. It’s also important to watch what you pour down the drains. Substances like cooking fat and grease can easily congeal in the pipes and cause blockages.
Avoid frozen pipes.
Frozen pipes can be an absolute nightmare during the winter months and are liable to burst. If the water flow appears restricted at any point on its journey, it’s a good indication that there is a frozen blockage somewhere.
If you’re expecting very cold weather, any pipes that are exposed to the elements, whether they are outside or found in your home, should be insulated properly with pipe lagging and heat tape. You can also regularly pour a little hot water down your sinks in order to remove any build-up of fats, oils and grease in the pipes.
